The U.S. units of Solvay Chemicals is boosting prices for sodium sulfite by 25¢ and sodium metabisulfite and sodium sulfite blended products by 30¢/lb to offset rising raw materials costs. “The unprecedented escalation in the cost of sulfur has driven up Solvay Chemicals’ cost of manufacturing,” according to Mike Wood, business manager for sulfite products in Houston. “We have kept this increase as low as possible to reflect our concern for our customers,” says Wood.
