Here's a sneak peak at the latest Transaction Price Commentary & Forecasts (September 30, 2008)

Inflationary pressures on commodities are off

Average prices of Purchasing magazine’s market basket of 109 raw materials used to manufacture consumer durable and commercial, construction and industrial goods decreased slightly in the third quarter. With the manufacturing and the housing market stuck in reverse, third quarter’s 2% deflation followed two previous quarters of inflation. And Purchasingdata.com sees another 2% decline in the fourth quarter. But, overall, commodities remain on pace to reflect an annual inflation rate of 12%. So far, the price outlook for 2008 is hinged on expected increases of 39% in energy costs tracked by Purchasingdata.com and a 26% annualized hike for chemicals and resins.
