Sun chooses TSMC

-- Purchasing, 3/6/2008 6:37:00 AM

Sun Microsystems has chosen Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. to make its multicore processors on 45-nanometer process technology.

Previously Sun had used Texas Instruments to produce its processors, but TI is ramping down its foundry work. TSMC is the world’s largest chip foundry.

Sun, based in Santa Clara, Calif., did not say when chips produced on 45nm technology would be produced and terms of the deal were not announced.
