Linerboard price discounting reported

By Tom Stundza -- Purchasing, 4/16/2008 11:30:00 AM

East Coast paperboard buyers are reporting $30/ton discounting this month off the $555 list price for 42-lb linerboard. This matches recent commentary by analyst Mark Wilde of Deutsch Bank, who is quoted on the RISI subscription newsletter as saying “spot prices appear to be down $20-$40/ton.” While it's possible that some of the price cutting in both domestic and export markets is due to seasonal demand weakness, he adds “it may also reflect a scramble for orders (by the mills) in the face of a slowing economy.”
