Nalco has announced global price increases of 10% to 15% for its broad range of colloidal silica and related products. The Naperville, Ill., firm says the price increases are due to significant escalation in the costs of chemical raw materials, energy and freight. “In the past months, we have seen extraordinary cost increases in key raw materials, driven by energy costs and global demand for basic commodities,” says Joe Kosiek strategic business manager of the firm’s Colloidal Technologies Group.
The higher prices will affect colloidal silica, specialty soils and complementary process chemicals. These products are used in the precision investment casting of metal parts, the polishing of silicon wafers, the production of memory disks and other electronic substrates and the vacuum-forming of shapes and high temperature refractories.
